THE SPIRAL CALENDAR OF AN INDIAN TRIBE
AND PILGRIM'S SPIRAL JOURNEY
A SPIRAL OUTWARDS
Symbols painted on animal skins recorded the passage of Time in parts of North America. Each symbol stood for an important
event in the life of the tribe in a given year. When we follow up the chronological sequence of the events on the above
animal skin record, starting from the begining of the record, that is from the center, we will see that we are following
a Spiral Path of Time.
... AND INWARDS
Something entirely opposite in direction but same in essence is present on this painting
presenting the spiral path of the christian journey (John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress", 1678).
The spiral journey is occurring towards the center.
The above two examples illustrate some of the essence of what has been mentioned previously in a deeply
expressive way.
